It will be organised as a two-day event, running from Wednesday October 5th to Thursday October 6th – alongside WETEX.
The World Green Economy Summit 2016 is strongly based on the outcomes and commitments of the 2015 World Green Economy Summit.
The Summit will focus on strengthening its position as the world hub for green business, creating the largest concentration of green Public Private Partnership initiatives and making the World Green Economy Summit the premier go-to green event for global leaders.
WGES 2016 will lead Dubai to stand as the International Capital of the Green Economy.
The key outcome of WGES 2015 was the Dubai Declaration 2015 – which includes a number of new initiatives which have been developed over the past year, pertaining to the three focus areas of ‘Dubai the International Capital of the Green Economy’, Global Partnerships, and Green Finance.
The World Green Economy Summit is an initiative by the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority and is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President Prime Minister of UAE and The Ruler of Dubai and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, in cooperation with the Dubai Green Economy Partnership and WETEX.
The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) aims to be the premier international platform for strategic partnerships and innovative solutions seeking to accelerate the transition in to the green economy. WGES 2016 is the 3rd of its event series and will be held over two days on the 5th and 6th of October 2016, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) has become the first green summit in the Middle East and North Africa region, bringing together World leaders, united in pursuing a sustainable future for humanity to forge global partnerships that accelerate the transition to a green economy.
The summit is organised in partnership with “Dubai Green Economy Partnership”, WETEX, the leading Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition in the region since 1992, and the international green stakeholder platform, World Climate Ltd. WGES 2016 will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre alongside WETEX 2016, which attracts more than 1500 exhibitors and over 20,000 visitors annually.
The United Arab Emirates is the first country in the MENA region to commit to a green economy strategy and Dubai is leading the region in green infrastructure investment from renewable energy and green building to public transport and green technologies. WGES complements the sustainable future vision of the UAE and our efforts in combating climate change from Masdar City and hosting The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi to the 1000 MW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park project and other leading initiatives, projects and programs. Examples include Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy aims to reduce carbon emissions and improve resource efficiency to achieve a 30% and 20% reduction in energy and water consumption, respectively. Dubai is also home to the first global multi-stakeholder collaboration initiative “Dubai Green Economy Partnership” bringing together leaders from government and private sectors to drive green trade and investment.
The World Green Economy Summit 2016 will be launched at the World Climate Summit 2015, in Paris on December 6, 2015.
